The 6-foot-4, 289-pounder continues to have a top two of Illinois and Florida. He also is considering Florida State, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Southern California and others.
McCray verbally committed to the Gators early in the process, but backed out of his commitment during the summer to explore other options. Greg Mattison is his Florida recruiter.
McCray has been to several Gator games unofficially this season.
He visited Illinois officially on the weekend of Oct. 6. Dan Disch is recruiting McCray for the Fighting Illini.
The nation's fourth-ranked defensive tackle prospect currently is preparing his team for its upcoming playoff game against Pensacola Pine Forrest.
"I'm just getting in playoff mode," he said.
Whichever program lands McCray will be getting a versatile prospect that could play any position on the defensive or offensive line, including tight end. Most likely, though, McCray will play defensive line.
Veteran talent scout Randy Rodgers agreed after studying McCray on film.
"McCray is very physical and can handle offensive tackles," Rodgers said. "He has good initial punch, runs well, and shows a burst to the ball in space. Has the speed to be a very big defensive end, but could also be a terrific inside player as well."
McCray is a four-star prospect and is the No. 41 overall prospect nationally.
