The nation's No. 44 ranked prospect, Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) linebacker Mike McCray, watched his five-star teammate Cameron Burrows, announce his decision in January. Now, the 6-4, 230-pound McCray is ready to make his college selection.
"Mike McCray is going to make his announcement on where he wants to go next Thursday, March 8," said Trotwood-Madison head coach Maurice Douglass Monday morning.
At last count, McCray had accumulated 16 scholarship offers. He revealed on Monday that the group of finalists he will select from consists of Arizona, Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee and South Carolina.
McCray has seen several of those schools in-person already, with his most recent visit taking place this past weekend to Illinois.
"He went to Illinois this weekend and had a good visit there," Douglass said.
One more trip is scheduled before McCray makes his announcement on March 8, and that will be taken to Michigan next Tuesday, March 6. McCray will announce his selection at his high school at 6:30 p.m.
McCray is coming off a junior season in which he helped lead Trotwood-Madison to the Division 2 state championship by tallying 86 tackles, five interceptions, three forced fumbles and two quarterback sacks from his linebacker position. He also caught 28 passes for over 500 yards and scored 12 touchdowns as a tight end on offense.
