McCoy makes his commitment

Add commitment No. 5 out of the Oakland (Calif.) McClymonds program as running back Terrence McCoy ended his recruitment over the weekend and committed to Idaho.
McCoy, 5-8, 160 pounds burst on to the scene at the NorCal Nike camp last summer where he tested off the charts and was rated one of the top backs in the camp. The athlete clocked a 4.52 in the 40, jumped 32 inches in the vertical and did 18 reps on the bench.

"That camp was huge for him," Warrior coach Alonzo Carter said. "I knew if he had a chance to show what he could do, he would come out of that camp with a lot of interest and that's exactly what happened. He gained so much confidence after that camp. "
McCoy was one of 12 players in this year's senior class that was brought up to varsity as a sophomore. The team took a few lumps early on but things paid off with a city championship this year.
"I knew we would struggle early on when all these kids were sophomores," Carter said. "I also knew they all had talent, guys like NaDerris (Ward), Derrick (Hill) and Rico (Thomas). We only won two games that season but last year, we turned it around and this year, we could have played with anyone.
"Terrence had to share carries with two other backs so his numbers were a little down. We called them our three headed monster- Terrence, Rico who is going to San Diego State and my junior Willie Griffin who will be a big time blue chipper next year. Terrence still rushed for 1,003 yards and 14 touchdowns on just 110 carries and was out big play back in the group.
"He can run inside or outside and has great speed and strength. He's short, but he's not small. He's very strong and runs hard and between the tackles. He liked Nevada and Utah State too but Coach Holt (Idaho head coach) came by the school last Thursday and Terrence decided to get it over with right then and there."
