McCormick picks up in-state offer

Cam McCormick had been hearing from a handful of college coaches and put up good numbers as a junior this season, but he was still caught off guard Saturday when he landed his latest scholarship offer.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end was told to call Oregon because the Ducks had some good news to share. And then when he picked up the phone to speak with assistant coach Steve Greatwood, the Class of 2016 prospect from Bend (Ore.) Summit still couldn't believe the development.

"I'm shocked," McCormick said. "I'm really surprised that all my hard work is paying off. I feel really honored that a school like Oregon would offer me a scholarship to attend their university and play football."
McCormick also holds offers from Arizona, Boise State and Montana State. He has been hearing from Arkansas, Colorado, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State.
The Oregon offer was special, though, particularly because it's an in-state option.
"We're very excited," McCormick said. "It's a very good opportunity because my parents could come to my games still and watch me play. And the Oregon program speaks for itself. They are ranked No. 2 right now and it's really a top-notch program. I'm impressed with the facilities and coaching staff. I went to spring practice event and really liked it."
McCormick, who also plays basketball and participates on the track and field team, said he would hope to make a decision by the end of next summer.
"Hopefully that happens, so I can concentrate on my senior year," McCormick said. "I'm hoping to visit all the schools that have offered. I'm still in the process of planning all of that out. It probably won't happen until after the school year is over, just because I'm playing other sports."
McCormick had 35 catches for 491 yards and eight touchdowns this past season. On the defensive side of the ball, he added 44 total tackles, nine of which were for a loss.
