McClendon lands his first offer

This past week, St. Petersburg (Fla.) Boca Ciega's Elijah McClendon landed his first offer. The offer was extended by Western Michigan.
"It was a big relief," McClendon said. "I had been working hard all through the offseason - training, weight lifting, practicing three days a week - and to finally have somebody open their eyes and see what I was about, that was a great feeling."

The 6-foot-1, 192-pound intends to call defensive coordinator Dave Cohen on Sunday evening and speak with him further about Western Michigan. He said he doesn't know a great deal about the school at this stage of his recruitment.
Outside of Western Michigan, McClendon mentioned major interest coming from Ball State, Florida International, Iowa State, and Samford. He expects Florida International to check in on him at school on Monday and believes they may extend an offer.
McClendon is a versatile defensive prospect capable of playing more than one position. He is hearing different positions from different schools.
"It is a mix between safety and outside linebacker, Will linebacker, using my speed and ability to come down in the box and hit somebody," McClendon said. "I played Will linebacker for three years so it isn't that big of an adjustment for me."
This summer McClendon plans to visit schools including Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He also plans to camp at Florida International and Miami in early June.
