The only official visit Clearwater (Fla.) Catholic linebacker Colin McCarthy has taken thus far was to Ohio State. And while he does not have anything to compare the trip with yet, McCarthy leaves no doubt the visit to Ohio State leaves the Buckeyes with as good a shot as anyone on his list.
"Ohio State, Miami, Georgia Tech, Penn State, North Carolina State, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Indiana," McCarthy said. "That's pretty much who I've narrowed it down to. Of those schools I'd probably say all of them are pretty much in the running for the top spot.
"I have a clearer picture of Ohio State because I visited there. The visit went great. I met all the linebackers. I met with coach Tressel. He's a real cool guy.
"More than likely I'll take all my visits before I decide. I was supposed to make an official visit to Penn State when they played Ohio State, but they canceled it. I haven't set anything up yet, but I might reschedule it for after the season."
The 6-foot-1 and 210-pound McCarthy missed a little over one game with a shoulder injury, but still has 90 tackles in the five plus games he has played in. He has 13 tackles for losses and three sacks. On the other side of the ball McCarthy has 23 receptions and four touchdowns.
McCarthy, a three-star prospect, is the No. 21 outside linebacker in the Rivals.com player rankings and the No. 61 player in the state of Florida.
