Mayo impressed with VTech

Hampton (Va.) Kecoughtan linebacker Jerod Mayo completed his official visits this weekend. Mayo is systematically cutting down his top five to three schools before making a decision. One team is gone, who will be next?
"I have eliminated Purdue from consideration. They were the nicest people that I met on any of my visits but I just didn't like the location. I am down to Virginia, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, and North Carolina State. I will chop off another team by Friday," said the 6-foot-2, 214 pound linebacker who runs the 40 yard-dash in 4.62 seconds.

What did Mayo think of his visit to Virginia Tech?
"I enjoyed it. I had this vision of the trip going in and it surpassed those expectations. I really had a good time. Virginia Tech's defense got burned alot last season so they have decided to change to a 4-3 defense. I think I fit in well with the players and the coaches there. They have jumped up on my list."
Mayo said that he has a system for making his decision.
"I have made out a check list. For every check a school gets, they get a strike. I will use that point system in my decision making process along with input from my coaches and parents."
What is up next for Jerod?
"I have an in-home visit with Coach Amato (North Carolina State) on Tuesday, Coach Fulmer (Tennessee) on Wednesday, and I think Coach London from Virginia is heading down this week.
"I will probably decide sometime around Signing Day but I won't have a press conference. I will probably just call the coaches to let them know."
