Mayo has two new offers

For a while the only offers for Hampton (Va.) Kecoughtan linebacker Jerod Mayo were from the local Cavs and Hokies. Now he has two more offers from top programs.
"NC State and Purdue have offered me scholarships recently," said Mayo. "That's in addition to UVA and Virginia Tech. I'm looking at all four of those schools, but Purdue and NC State maybe a little bit less than the Virginia schools. North Carolina, UVA, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Ohio State would probably be my five favorite schools right now."

What does Mayo like about his leaders?
"They're each pretty unique," said the 6-foot-2, 214-pound linebacker. "I really like the coaching staff at Virginia. UNC is rebuilding and they're going to need a lot of talented guys that can come in and contribute right away. Virginia Tech does a great job with weight lifting and getting players to physically improve. Tennessee has a great history, and Ohio State is great because they're the defending national champs.
"They're all well established programs. Each has really good academics too."
Mayo visited three schools this summer. Did he enjoy one trip more than the others?
"The visit to NC State was probably the best," he said. "Their facilities are really nice. I also visited UVA and Virginia Tech. Those were good trips too."
As a junior Mayo recorded 68 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, three sacks and he picked off four passes.
