Maynard mulling his options

After several early scholarship offers, Indianapolis (Ind.) Decatur Central three-star offensive guard Trent Maynard's recruitment has quieted down in recent months.
"I didn't get to any camps or any visits this summer," he said. "The reason why I didn't was because I knew this was my last year of high school and wanted to make sure I spent all the time I could with the guys and put my time and effort into the program as much as I could."

The 6-foot-4, 298-pound Maynard plans to take official visits before making his college selection. None of those visits have been scheduled yet, but he has his eyes set on a visiting a Big Ten program this fall.
"Out of all my offers I have, I really love Minnesota and what they are accomplishing so far," Maynard said. "I have seen the pre-season rankings and heard great things about them."
Maynard has not visited Minneapolis for a recruiting visit yet, but has developed a good relationship with their coaching staff.
"I have definitely been trying to keep in contact with their staff as much as any staff," Maynard said. 'I love their coaches there. Coach (Matt) Limegrover is a great coach and I loved being able to talk with him in-person. Hopefully sometime in the near future I can take my official visit there."
The other team that Maynard has a high opinion of at this stage of his recruitment of the eight that have offered comes from the Mid-American Conference.
"I am really looking into Western Michigan," Maynard said. "I know they are in the MAC and it's not as big as the Big Ten, but they are always competing for the championship in their conference and I love the coaching staff down there."
One of the reasons Maynard is currently taking time with his recruiting process right now is because he feels more offers could be on the way.
"It might seem like I am more relaxed and laid back right now, but I know once the season starts - and I'm looking to have a couple dominant games to start the season - I am looking forward to everything picking up," he said.
"There are a number of programs that keep in contact with me that haven't offered. A couple schools I have talked to that haven't offered me yet would be the University of Tennessee, Notre Dame and Ohio State. I know that once I make my statement these first couple of games, I'll hear from them more."
Other schools that had offered Maynard include Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern.
