Mayfield picks UCF

Dontay Mayfield took a workmanlike approach to this whole recruiting thing. The three-star wide receiver amassed a healthy offer list, made a few visits, set a commitment date and stuck to it. He said he'd announce his decision on June 15 and stuck to his word.
The date arrived, and Mayfield pledged his services to UCF via twitter. His reasoning for the decision was about what one would expect.

"I love what they have done with the program," Mayfield said. "They are producing a lot of NFL players. Once I got to the school, the facilities are second to none. I also like that it's an in-state school, kind of close to home."
Mayfield informed the Knights' coaching staff of his decision on Sunday, and the news was met with the usual excitement. The decision, it seems, was a longtime in the making. That doesn't mean it came and went without excitement.
"I told the wide receivers coach first," Mayfield said. "He was proud happy and excited. He was telling me he couldn't wait to see me get up there."
As for additional visits, Mayfield says he intends to keep an open mind. His commitment to the Knights is new and solid, sure, but that doesn't mean he intends to shut down conversations with other coaching staffs completely. He even has a few visit destinations still in mind.
"I'm gonna take my visits," Mayfield said. "I don't know where yet but maybe Kentucky, Virginia and Georgia Southern. That could change"
A wide receiver at Miami's Gulliver Prep High School, Mayfield chose UCF over 23 other scholarship offers. [db]Kentucky[/db], [db]Duke[/db], [db]Virginia[/db] and [db]Cincinnati[/db] were other schools he strongly considered.
