Mauro bouncing back

Locust Valley, New York athlete Marc Mauro is playing a bit of catch up, as he went down to an injury in the third game of his junior season. Because of that he's a bit of an unknown relative to some other prospects, but he's working hard to change that.
In the first quarter of Locust Valley's third game of the season Mauro tried to make a cut on a rainy field. The result was a fractured ankle and the end of his junior season.

Mauro passed up on basketball season this time around but after rehabbing his ankle he's back to 100-percent. He's now running track (his best time in the 100 is a 10.7) and working hard to establish himself as one of the top football prospects in New York.
The 6-foot-1, 178-pound athlete plays safety, running back and wide receiver for his high school. In just two games he averaged 10 yards per carry, caught a touchdown pass and recorded an interception.
Apparently that was enough to capture the attention of a few coaches.
"I've been getting a bunch of mail. I've got mail from Connecticut, Purdue, Maryland and schools like that. I've got a lot of Ivy League stuff, too, from Princeton, UPenn and Harvard.
"I know Connecticut wants me to go up to their Blue & White game ... their spring game. I missed the Syracuse Junior Day because I got the mail for it late, but they wanted me to come. I'm definitely going to look into a bunch of those schools."
While coaches like what they know about Mauro so far, the problem is they just don't know enough yet. What offers he receives will largely be determined by what he does between now and the end of his senior season.
"I've already sent (film) to Syracuse and Maryland. It was just some game film from this past year. I don't really have that much because we got hurt in the third game."
While it might not matter until he receives his first offers Mauro does know of a couple of schools that he would put at or near the top of his list.
"Syracuse is looking cool. I'm definitely interested in them. UConn is too. I just like the campuses in general. I have a lot of interest in the Big East schools. I'd love to play for one of them."
Mauro would also be a candidate to return kicks at the college level. He said he believes most schools will be recruiting him as a safety.
