Matthews waits on first offer

Clearwater (Fla.) Countryside defensive back A.J. Matthews is still waiting on his first scholarship offer, but is getting interest from a number of schools.
"I have no real concrete offers yet," he said. "It's still the same schools, UCLA, Florida, Miami (Fla.), Florida State, South Carolina and Georgia Tech."

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is hearing the most from the Bruins. He took a trip out to Los Angeles with high school teammate and Stanford-bound quarterback L.D. Crow earlier in the process and liked what he saw.
"I went their in March for a little camp with L.D.," he said. "It's a nice area. It's a nice climate and a nice campus."
He is being recruited by Bruins assistant D.J. McCarthy.
"He's a real nice person," Matthews said. "He's real straight forward and easy to talk to."
Matthews will travel with his team to Raleigh, N.C., for a 7-on-7 passing tournament at N.C. State in July.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "It's a team type thing."
Matthews says he likely projects as a free safety or strong safety at the next level.
