Mattes schedules two officials

Four-star offensive tackle R.J. Mattes was scheduled to take an official visit this weekend to Virginia. The 6-foot-6, 259-pounder couldn't make the trip, but has scheduled two more visits instead.
"I was planning to go, but I've got to reschedule," he said. "It was a night game and coach Groh wanted me to come for a day game and be able to hang out with the players at night. I'll probably end up setting that one up real soon. I'm definitely going there on an official visit."

Virginia is one of five schools still in the mix for Mattes along with South Carolina, North Carolina, NC State and Clemson.
The No. 32 offensive tackle in the country has scheduled two other officials though.
"I've got a trip scheduled to North Carolina on December 1st and South Carolina on December 8th," he said. "I will schedule to the other schools too. I cut it to these five because they are close to my house and all are great academic programs."
In the meantime, Mattes is making unofficial visits. This weekend he went down to South Carolina.
"It was a good game for them, the SEC environment is real good," he said. "I met with coach Hunt and walked around the locker room. Walking with him earned them some extra points. I liked his presence. He's a good guy to talk to and has been in the pros.
"The game was good too. It was close throughout until the end when South Carolina scored late. It was a great atmosphere and people seemed really excited and talked a lot about what Steve Spurrier has done there."
Mattes confirmed he plans to take another unofficial in the near future to North Carolina when they host South Carolina in two weeks.
