Mathis prepares for various visits

Joe Mathis was supposed to visit Texas A&M this weekend for its matchup against LSU but did not make the trip and it disappointed the four-star defensive end from Upland, Calif.
Visits will start next week for Mathis, though, as he is heading to Utah for an important trip to see if the Pac-12 school could be his college destination. The Utes host Cal next weekend.

"I'm going to see what's up," Mathis said. "I'm going to see if I like it there and that's pretty much it.
"It's wait-and-see after that. I was supposed to be at the Texas A&M game but my coach told me I couldn't go. I watched it though."
Mathis, rated as the No. 10 strong-side defensive end and the No. 151 prospect in the 2013 class by Rivals.com, said he plans to reschedule his Texas A&M trip for another weekend.
A visit to Alabama is also getting scheduled for later this season. Trips to Washington and Hawaii should round out his allotted five trips.
The four-star who could also play linebacker took an unofficial visit to UCLA last weekend and he said the Bruins definitely made an impression.
UCLA probably has a little work to do in comparison to other programs that are recruiting Mathis but the Upland standout said it's something to consider.
"They're doing really well," Mathis said of UCLA. "I like what I see from them. They've been recruiting me pretty hard, really hard, so we'll see what happens."
No decision is expected soon.
Mathis, rated as the No. 15 recruit in the California state rankings, probably won't make his commitment until the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
