Mathis names 10 favorites

Joe Mathis said this past weekend at the NIKE Air Strike tournament at Dana Hills that he's focused on 10 schools and starting to consider official visits.
The Upland, Calif., four-star defensive end said Alabama, Washington, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami and Arizona State have made the cut.

Mathis, a 6-foot-4, 243-pound prospect who's rated sixth at his position, No. 71 in the 2013 class and ninth in the California state rankings by Rivals.com, said he wants to take official trips to Michigan and Washington for sure.
Visits to Hawaii and Arizona State are also being seriously considered.
"I think I'm going to take my official visits to Michigan and Washington so far," Mathis said. "I don't know about Nebraska because I was out there for four days and that's pretty much an official so I'm not sure about that one."
Mathis has already taken unofficial visits to Michigan and Washington - plus he'll be going back to Washington for an unofficial visit this week - and so those two programs do stand out in his recruitment.
The four-star prospect was committed to the Huskies earlier in his recruitment but backed off that pledge and has seen his recruitment take off.
"On Twitter a lot of people from Michigan are hitting me up," Mathis said. "I'm going to see about them but I'm going to keep all my options open.
"With Washington, it's Tosh (Lupoi). It's just him as a coach and being young he knows how to talk to us plus he's a good coach. He got a lot of guys to the NFL."
In total, Mathis has about 50 offers. In his junior season, the Upland standout registered 79 tackles and six sacks for a 12-win team.
