And while McKenzie is taking a look at a number of schools that have offered a scholarship, he is also looking at some that have not offered to this point.
"I'm interested in Syracuse, Pitt, Ohio State, North Carolina, Penn State, Boston College, and Miami of Florida," McKenzie said. "Most of them have offered.
"Syracuse, North Carolina, and Pitt offered. Coach Daniels from Ohio State basically said I have a scholarship, but I haven't received anything in writing from them yet.
"I visited Syracuse and Pitt. I went to their camps. I plan on visiting Ohio State, but I have to get transportation.
"Right now I don't have a favorite. I plan on taking my official visits."
The 6-foot-3, 235 pound Mathews made 45 tackles including 13 sacks during his junior season. Mathews had 10 other tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He is the No. 6 prospect in the state of New York in the Rivals.com player rankings.
