Erie (Pa.) McDowell is home to three potential Division I college prospects, the biggest of which is offensive tackle Dan Matha. The 6-foot-7, 310-pounder hasn't received an offer to date, but is getting plenty of interest.
"He gets regular letters from the MAC, Big Ten and some schools in the SEC," said McDowell head coach Joe Tarasovich. "He particularly gets letters from Penn State, Michigan State, Virginia and Pittsburgh I know. Danny is pretty low key about the whole recruiting process and I don't think he has any leaders at this point."
Besides his size, what else makes Matha stand out?
"He's specially made with good size, but also works hard in the weight room and is just a mountain of a man," he said. "He's a very powerful run blocker and is a pretty quick, but could use a little more work in his flexibility and speed.
"This year he played excellent for us because if we had to get some yards we would run right behind him. I have all the confidence in the world he'll improve on his speed, quickness and strength before next year."
