Mastromatteo visits Penn State

Linebacker Dan Mastromatteo of Absecon (N.J.) Holy Spirit recently reeled in a couple more offers and also hit the road to attend a practice at Penn State. A few more visits are scheduled, as the South Jersey linebacker prepares to make a pre-summer decision.
"Penn State was a good trip," said Mastromatteo, who is 6-foot-2 and 215-pounds. "I liked the indoor practice field and the stadium. They had a team scrimmage and they were running around and hitting. I liked the way they practiced."

The visit to Happy Valley gave him the opportunity to meet with the coaching staff too.
"I talked to Coach Vanderlinden and he said that he wants me to come to their camp," said Mastromatteo, who gave his overall opinion on his visit. "It was good. It seemed like a great place to be on a game day and it has a lot of tradition."
While he did not leave Happy Valley with an offer, Mastromatteo has experienced more and more recruiting success in recent weeks.
"Recruiting has really picked up," he said. "I got two offers last week, so it's really picking up. Boston College and Cincinnati offered last week."
These two offers join previous offers from Rutgers and Tulane. He also mentioned that he has been receiving steady interest from Central Florida, Penn State, Michigan and a few other Big East schools.
Up next for Mastromatteo are a few more visits.
"I'm going to try and get up to Cincinnati soon and Boston College since they offered me, and I'm going to Rutgers again on the 30th," he said.
Mastromatteo named Rutgers, Cincinnati and Boston College as his three favorites at this time, and he is hoping to make a decision before the summer.
