Mel Tucker and his staff at Michigan State have hit the ground running and they’re burning up the recruiting trail. The latest return on their recruiting efforts is offensive lineman Kevin Wigenton out of Princeton (N.J.) Hun School. The massive offensive lineman explained why he chose the Spartans over Maryland, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

“I really loved coach Tucker's vision and the message he has for Michigan State,” Wigenton said. “I really believe in him and coach Kap, the offensive line coach, and what he told me we'd do together. I'm really excited about it.

“They had a couple of draft picks from Colorado,” he said. “Coach Tucker has been all around as a coach. He was at Alabama, Georgia, I know he was interim head coach in the NFL and was a defensive coordinator so I know he can help me get to the NFL. Coach Kap has also send a bunch of offensive linemen to NFL so I know they're going to prepare me very well. Academically Michigan State will push me to be the best I can be.

“I’m really excited about it (the way they've been recruiting),” Wigenton said. “Ever since I got my offer they've been in contact with me every day. It's been pretty much every staff member and every coach. I've been really committed for about two weeks in my head and on Sunday I called them and made it official. They're looking at me as more of a tackle. They think I could play guard too.

“I told coach Kap I wanted to FaceTime him,” he said. “It was my parents and me and when we told him he was pretty much speechless and was really happy. He wasn't expecting me to do it and he just told me he was so excited to get me on campus and get to work with me and help me fulfill my dreams. We're going to accomplish great things at Michigan State.

“I’m supposed to take an official visit there in June,” said Wigenton. “We don't know if that's gonna happen. It's supposed to be June 12th.”
