Ewa Beach (Hawaii) Campbell lineman Matthew Masifilo took his fourth and final official visit this past weekend to Stanford. The talented lineman will take the next two weeks to focus on his final exams and then will focus on his decision.
Masifilo, 6-3, 260 pounds had earlier visited Oregon, Washington and Cal. The visit to Stanford was unique in that there wasn't a single Cardinal coach on campus.
"There wasn't any coaches there but it was still definitely worth the visit," Masifilo said. "The main thing I was looking for on the visit was how I got along with the players on the team and I had a chance to spend a lot of time with the guys.
"The team is very close knit and everyone is very close. There are a lot of high character guys on the team and the overall atmosphere there was great for me. Sione Fua was my host and he's a real good guy. They don't have as many Polynesians on the team but it was still great hanging with those guys and we shared a lot in common.
"There were about 10 commits on the visit and me and another player were the only ones who hadn't committed yet. Some of the players made comments about wanting me to commit to Stanford and all but for the most part, we jut hung out and got to know each other.
"Without the coaches being there, we had a chance to talk a lot with the athletic director and some of the other coaches from the other sports there. The AD told us he's traveling day and night to find the right guy for the job.
"He said he was out all last week and will continue to work day and night until he finds the perfect guy. Right now, I've decided I'm done taking visits and will focus on these final four schools I visited. I have finals this week so my focus is going to be only on school. Then the following week, I'll start to narrow my list down and will hopefully have my decision by around New Years."
