Maryland exceeded expectations last season under head coach D.J. Durkin and hauled in an impressive recruiting class that finished No. 17 in the country. Now the Terps are building their 2018 class by adding quarterback Tyler DeSue. The signal caller from Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan is the second commitment in Maryland's 2018 class.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

"I picked Maryland because of the coaching style that they have there and the mentality that the team has," DeSue said. "The offensive scheme fits me perfectly because it's basically what we do now but they involve the quarterback more with running and decision-making on the field. I think it will really help me elevate my game and become a better quarterback.

"I honestly hadn't heard too much about the team before last year," he said. "I didn't know much about them when I got the offer and then I went up there and saw the way they practiced and all the stuff they did. It's what I do now just a little more complicated. I think it will be the easiest transition.

"I have a strong relationship with coach Beatty and coach Bell," said DeSue. "Coach Beatty is the receivers coach but he is from down here and it a legendary coach from down here. I've been up to Maryland a couple times and I can just tell that Coach Bell is a very even-keeled guy but he'll get on you when he has to. His coaching style is exactly what I'm looking for.

"A lot of guys that I go to school with here at Bishop Sullivan like Maryland so I definitely think there is some kind of pipeline here," he said. "There are other kids from the area that see us going and think that there is something special going on up there. Tahj, Brandon, and Breyon were big offer guys so now everybody down here is thinking about Maryland. It's definitely opened a lot of eyes down in this area.

"When I was at Ocean Lakes I was telling everybody that Ocean Lakes was the best school in the are," DeSue said. "As soon as I got to Bishop Sullivan I embraced everything they have there and was recruiting for them. At whatever school I'm at, that's the one I'm pulling for and recruiting for. I'm telling everybody to go to Maryland."

RIVALS' REACTION

DeSue brings a lot to the table for Maryland. He has a powerful arm and does a good job getting the ball out of his hand quickly, delivering it to his playmakers so they can pick up yards after the catch. DeSue is also more mobile than people give him credit for. Even though he is listed as a pro-style quarterback, DeSue does a good job of buying time with his feet. Maryland is working hard to build their presence in the Tidewater region of Virginia and the most talented program in that area right now is Bishop Sullivan. It's clear Maryland is doing a good job building relationships there with Desue being the fourth Bishop Sullivan prospect to commit to the Terps between the 2017 and 2018 classes.
