Maryland picks up three-star RB

Three-star all-purpose back Caleb Porzel gave a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia back in February but backed off that pledge and re-opened his recruitment.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound back from Wheaton (Md.) Our Lady of Good Counsel has now made another commitment, and it's one he said he plans on keeping.

"I committed to Maryland yesterday," Porzel recalled. "I talked to Coach Franklin and I gave Coach Friedgen a message. I'm going to call him back around 5 o'clock."
With offers from schools like Boston College, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Virginia, West Virginia and others, Porzel had plenty of options to choose from.
Why did he feel Maryland was the place for him?
"Well, it's home," he explained. "I felt comfortable with everyone there. It's about 25 minutes away from home and everyone is welcome there. I'm solid."
In the end it wasn't an easy decision for Porzel, but it's a decision he doesn't anticipate changing.
He said his decision came down to Maryland, Illinois, Oregon, West Virginia and Pitt.
As a junior Porzel had 107 carries for 967 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is rated the No. 17 all-purpose back in the nation.
