Maryland jumbo ATH discusses plans

Frederick (Md.) St. John's Catholic Prep junior Forrest Mason may hold just one offer thus far -- from UConn -- but he is an intriguing prospect because of his versatility and athleticism for a young man his size.
If Mason impresses on the camp circuit his stock could take off. Several schools other than UConn are showing a lot of interest these days, so it might not take much for his offer list to start to grow.

"I still have the one offer from UConn. We have workouts these days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and UCLA came in and saw me today," Mason explained. "They want me to go out there to camp. The other day UNC, Georgia and Tennessee were all here, too. It's all going pretty well."
Mason said it's too early to name a favorite or a list of favorites, but he did give some hints as to what will go into his thought process when decision time comes.
"First of all it's going to be about education. Without books you can't play. I'm thinking about majoring in sports management, business management or sports medicine.
"Second, how quick can I get on the field? What kind of defense are they going to run? I can play stand-up defensive end, in a three-point (stance) or outside linebacker.
"Most schools are saying I'm somewhere between a defensive end and a linebacker. It should be one of those. What I play just ends up on what scheme the school runs."
Mason will be visiting at least three schools over the summer.
"Well, I'm actually gonna talk to my dad about what camps we're going to," he said. "I know we're going to visit some schools. I'm pretty sure we're going to North Carolina and Tennessee, and I've got to visit Minnesota to see what that's like."
