Martinez sets summer plans

Defensive end Randy Martinez out of Teaneck, N.J. is starting to solidify his summer plans. The 6-foot-0, 231-pounder plans to visit three schools in the month of June including Michigan State, Boston College and Maryland.
"I picked those schools because I know about them and like their programs," he stated. "I also liked the coaches a lot from each of them. Hopefully when I make my visits there I can check out the campuses some more and get to know the coaches even better."

The Garden State prospect has six offers at this time from Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, North Carolina, Temple and Rutgers. Does he have any favorites?
"I wouldn't say I have any directly," he said. "I do have Syracuse pretty high up though because they have what I want to study, culinary arts and I've talked to coach Robinson before. If he comes around with an offer, I'll definitely look at them a lot more.
"As for what else I'm looking for out of a school, I want a strong defense that gets after the ball. I also would like to be around a good head coach that works with the defensive game plan."
With a half dozen offers in-hand, Martinez thinks a couple more schools could be offering soon.
"Bowling Green and Minnesota both talked to me during the May evaluation period and I had good conversations with them," he explained. "They both told me there's a chance I could see an offer."
Martinez still isn't quite sure when he wants to make a decision.
"I've begun to think about when I'll do it and I originally thought August," he said. "Now I'm thinking it could be sometime between then and October. I'd bet it'll be closer to mid-season so that I can take a couple visits."
Martinez earned first team all-league, all-NHAL and third team all-county honors last season after registering 80 tackles and six sacks.
