Mart has three top prospects in 2008

Having Division I prospects at Mart (Texas) High School isn't a rarity and coach Rusty Nail has several more for the class of 2008.
Wide receiver Kenny Barrett is getting the most early recruiting looks from schools such as Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. Barrett, standing at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, and coach Nail says he compares to last year's big receiver Damien Davis, who signed with Oklahoma State.

"He's a couple of inches shorter than Damien, but Kenny is every bit the athlete," Nail said. "OSU is looking at him at safety because he's physical, but he catches every ball for us. He'll cover a lot of ground and he's got a frame, where he could carry 220 pounds. If you watch him, it's so long and smooth it doesn't look like he's moving very fast.
"The clock will tell you different."
Barrett has already been to one junior day at Texas A&M. He hasn't received an official scholarship offer yet.
Junior athlete and Mart quarterback Lee McClendon isn't large in stature at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, but coach Nail says that he proved it with his stats last season.
"He threw for 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns last year," Nail said. "You know there are going to be height issues with a lot of people, but I think some schools would sign him as a quarterback. He was a slot receiver up until this past season and he can run.
"He rushed for around 1,300 yards along with those passing yards rushed for about 17 touchdowns."
Another prospect to watch is linebacker Heston Adler who stands at 6-foot, 210 pounds.
"Heston was our leading tackler," Nail said. "People say he's undersized, but he's tough and he'll hit you."
