Marlin duo setting things up
Matterial Richardson and D’Nerian Wrighter can walk the walk and talk the talk. So when they told Rivals100.com last week that there was no way that Newton could hang with them in the second round of the state playoffs, you knew they would be able to back it up.
And they did.

The two stars from Marlin, Texas, played a key role in whipping Newton 37-7.
“I had two touchdowns,” Richardson, a two star cornerback that also doubles as a running back, said. “I had them from 30 yards and 15 yards.”
Not to be outdone, Wrighter, a three-star safety prospect, scored a 30-yard touchdown and had 15 tackles.
“It was on a 23 slash,” Wrighter said. “I bounced it out and then cut it back up behind the offensive linemen. It was a thing of beauty.”
Just like they’re hoping their third round game against LaGrange will be this Friday night.
“They like to talk a lot of noise,” Wrighter, who is 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, said. “But when you talk noise against us, you get beat.”
With their attention focused on football, it’s hard to think about recruiting a ton, but both admit it’s always on their mind, even if it’s in the back of it.
“I’m trying to stay focused on winning the games,” Richardson, who is 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds, said. “But when you have some great teams recruiting you, it’s hard not to think about your future.”
Richardson has two official visits lined up. He’s set to visit Iowa on December 12 and then Arkansas on January 16. He also has offers from Colorado, SMU and TCU, but he said there is only one other school he’s going to visit.
“Coach Venables from Oklahoma has been calling a lot the past few weeks,” he said. “He wants me to come up for a visit, so that’ll be the other school that I visit.”
Wrighter’s list is somewhat similar to Richardson.
“We’re both going to go to Arkansas together that same weekend,” he said. “And I have Missouri set up for December 12. After that, I’m still very wide open. I’ll probably go visit Oklahoma, too, but other than that I’m wide open.”
The teams Wrighter is interested in include Colorado, Florida, Kansas State, Texas A&M and TCU. He has offers from all of those teams, except for Oklahoma.
