Once USC offered Marcus Johnson, the 2018 four-star athlete immediately thought about making a commitment.

He was taking an unofficial visit to campus and the Los Angeles Hawkins standout felt it was the right time. Johnson got his pledge out of the way early and he couldn’t be happier.

“We went down to the campus and I had been thinking about it for a while, like maybe I needed to make a commitment and when I went down there everything felt right and I just thought it would be a good decision to play at home and stay home and be close to the family,” Johnson said.

“USC has always been my dream school so when I got the offer I just always kept them in mind and I always thought about what it would be like to play there and the time was right.”

As to which position he will play for the Trojans, Johnson is still unsure. He could be in the backfield, he could be a receiver or be utilized on defense. The four-star just isn’t certain yet and is ready to contribute wherever USC’s coaches want to use him.

“When I talked to the coaches, I talked to coach Tee Martin, coach (Tommie Robinson) and coach (Ronnie) Bradford too so I’m not sure but I’m pretty sure they’re going to use me as an athlete,” Johnson said.

Johnson’s brother, Greg, is a 2017 four-star prospect who is about to make his commitment in the coming weeks.

USC, Nebraska and Oregon are the favorites for Greg Johnson and the 2018 recruit said his brother’s decision should not influence his pledge if he happens to pick a team other than the Trojans.

“I’m 100 percent committed to USC so his decision doesn’t affect mine,” Johnson said.

Nebraska and Notre Dame continue to show the most interest in the Los Angeles Hawkins prospect.
