"I have offers from Boise State, Utah State, Louisiana Tech, Iowa State and Buffalo," Maponga said.
The athletic defender is also hearing from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisville, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Nebraska and others. However, there is one school that Maponga is hearing from that he holds in very high esteem.
"Right now, it's probably going to be Illinois," Maponga said when asked who he favored. "I like Illinois because it's a great place to go. The coaches over there are real nice. They've got a good football program."
Maponga also is very high on UCLA at this point in the process and he says that there will be a few factors that play into his decision but the coaching staff will play the biggest role.
"It's probably going to be the coaching staff, how the coaches are and I want a good coach to teach me at my position," he said. "I'm looking for a good coach to teach me how to get better."
Maponga has demonstrated a desire to get better in the offseason by working hard in preparation for the fall.
"I've been trying to gain weight, muscle weight," he said. "I'm working on my speed and quickness off the ball. I'd like to play at 250, right now I'm at 242."
Thus far, Maponga has attended the Texas A&M camp and he also has plans to attend the LSU camp in July.
