Many trying to catch speedy Gilliam

Family ties or Florida powers?
That may be the burning question for one of the Sunshine State's top

athletes, Tallahassee Lincoln's
Ryan "Bird" Gilliam.
Gilliam, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound wide receiver/defensive back, has a brother
(Mike) at Georgia but heavy interest in Florida State, Florida and Miami.
"It's hard to tell where he might go," said Lincoln assistant coach Tone
Collins. "I think he's got them all about even right now. He's going to take his
time before making a decision."
In addition to those four schools, Gilliam has offers from Clemson, LSU and
Southern Cal.
Collins describes Gilliam as a "big-time playmaker" on either side of the
ball. As a juinior, he recorded 526 yards rushing, 413 yards receiving and 13
touchdowns at receiver and running back. At cornerback, he had 54 tackles, one
interception, nine pass break-ups and five forced fumbles.
But speed is the true name of his game. He's been timed at 4.3 in the forty
and runs the 100 meters in 10.65.
"He's like a Porsche," Collins said. "He can go zero to 60 in a heartbeat. He
does things you watch on film and can't believe. It's like he's not touching the
ground."
