JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — It was hot. Very hot. At one point, on the turf field at Mt. Pisgah, it was registering well into the triple digits. But in these times, players are hungry, you cannot be greedy and worry too much about the weather, so we pushed through, stayed hydrated, and athletes showed up from seven different states to compete at the MVP Camp.

Over 300 athletes from the 2021-2025 class showed up to test, work on position drills, then finish off the day with a short time of one-on-ones.

It's impossible to mention them all, but here are some of the names that created a buzz Sunday.

We talked about this young man a week ago after seeing him for the first time at the NextGen Showcase a week and a half ago. He showed up at the MVP Camp, and again, he impressed. Aguirre is still raw, and he is learning a lot at these camps, but his athleticism is undeniable. He is strong, he can run and he is expected to be a big name in the coming months. Just a day after his performance at the MVP Camp he was offered by Tennessee.

Allen may have been the talk of the camp. He is an athletic linebacker that tested well, then got on the field and made plays in coverage. He showed explosiveness and coaches on both sides of the ball were raving about this young man. It is early, and not too many schools are showing interest yet, but they will be very soon.

We saw schools like Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Virginia offer Allen last week, and with his length and versatility on the back-end of the defense, it is easy to see why. Allen has very long arms to go with his 6-feet, 2-inch height. He is getting back to full strength after being limited much of the off-season, he was very smooth on the field, and he could be in line for a big junior season.

Anderson moved down the road from Prince Avenue to Clarke Central this season, and he is expected to be the starter, and to put up good numbers. He flashed a strong arm in the drills before the rain closed camp out a little early. He has good size, he showed good footwork and his recruitment should get started in the coming months.

Atkins won the MVP award at the Valdosta camp in February, and he was back to compete in Atlanta. He was strong in the testing, then showed again the ability to run and move in space when it came to positional work. Not being seen by college coaches this spring and summer hurt his recruitment, but once he gets on the field this fall, things could change quickly.

Benton never shies away from a camp. He is always hungry to work, he brings a lot of energy, and like always he competed hard and had some success. His father Phillip Benton played at Georgia, and the in-state Bulldogs have offered, so the red and black are considered by many the early favorite. He plans to take his time with the recruiting process.

Bobo is the son of South Carolina offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, so he has been around the game his entire life. Unlike his father, this Bobo is an offensive lineman. He moved well in camp, he is strong in the fundamentals and he is going to build on early offers from Maryland, South Carolina and Tennessee.

A defensive back with great size. Very physical defender, one who took a lot of reps and he showed good reaction in coverage. With his frame, he looks more like a future in the box safety, or possibly linebacker. Either way, he will have his offers. Boston College and Kent State have offered so far.

Brown has a Troy offer and no stars, but both of those will change soon. He was a little thicker and stronger than expected, and Brown was tough for offensive linemen to handle. He flashed good quickness and used his length to help with his success in the trenches. His offer should grow in the very near future.

Calhoun is obviously still very young, and he is a raw talent, but the size is there and he moves well for his age and frame. When checking in before the camp got going, he had that ‘Blindside’ look to him, and he drew some attention from the coaches throughout the event. A name to know in the future.

Lavallee is a soon-to-be sophomore, but he looked as prepared for this type of environment as s senior. He created an early buzz with his 40 yard dash time in the low 4.7s. He moved well in drills, has a frame to build on and will be a name to keep up with in the coming years.

The rains came late in the day, when the younger group of quarterbacks were throwing, but Lonergan was still sharp. He has a compact delivery, the arm strength is there and it is easy to see why schools like Auburn, Georgia Tech, LSU and Penn State among others have offered. Within 24 hours of the camp's completion, South Carolina offered.

Madden is an intriguing prospect who could be a name that emerges this fall. He plays at Cedar Grove, one of the top programs in Georgia, so he will be around top talent and have chances to make plays in front of a lot of people this season. He is a long, rangy athlete that still needs to add weight, but he is flexible, he can bend around the corner and he is a new name on the scene.

Martin showed up with a new hair-do, a beard, and he is about to start his junior year of high school, but he looked more like a five year veteran in the NFL. These young men look older and older every year, but we can talk about that on another day. To see a player like Martin out competing at a camp with the offers he has says a lot about him. He is a great athlete, and once again, he showed that in this setting with agility and the ability to play in space. He quickly showed why schools like Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia have offered.

Mbake is a big bodied receiver with a long list of offers already and he uses his frame and strength to shield defenders. He is close to 6-feet, 3-inches tall, close to 210 pounds and has strong hands. Florida is considered the early favorite by some, but he is still considering a lot of schools.

O'Neal is one that kept popping up when watching the one-on-one session Sunday afternoon. He is a long athlete that has been moved all over the field for his high school team, but looks most like a future safety prospect. He was solid across the board in this setting, so he could become a name talked about this time next year.

Perry was tough for defensive backs to stay with in coverage Sunday. He is quick and shifty at his smaller size, so he is a future slot receiver with the ability to make plays in space. Most of the top offensive targets Marietta had a year ago moved on to play major college, so 2022 could be a breakout season for Perry. He has an early offer from Kentucky.

Shugarts had opposing offensive linemen talking about his strength as they left the field Sunday. He is very strong, very physical and he impressed in this setting. He has offers from Air Force and Tennessee Tech, but will draw a lot more attention this fall with the season set to go in Georgia.

Spurlin is a big 6-6, 205 pound athlete who is still playing a lot of wide receiver now, but he has that Miller Forristall look to him. He is going to add weight, and his future may be that FLEX tight end position as he matures. He has soft, strong hands, and is a reliable receiver when the ball is thrown his way. He showed the ability to make adjustments to the ball Sunday as well. Charlotte and Nebraska offered early and Tennessee offered after hearing about his camp performance.

Seeing Swann throw is becoming a weekly thing for Rivals, and over the weekend, we saw him twice. He was not as sharp Saturday as he had been, but on Sunday, he was in a much better rhythm and threw some nice balls. He is a quarterback always working. He is throwing five to six days a week right now, and is still very under-recruited. He has an offer from Troy.

Rozsman was strong Sunday. Since last summer, he has added 20-25 pounds, he threw the ball more consistently and you could see the confidence too. He has already played a lot of football with two seasons to go, so he is only going to get better. On Sunday, he just let the ball go and he had a good day. Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt have offered.

Witherspoon plays bigger, and much tougher than his size may lead you to think. He stepped in and competed from the start, and looked to be one of the better cover guys in the one-on-one session. He tested well showing quickness and a burst, then competed at a high level.
