Mangold has change of heart

Merritt Island, Fla. defensive end Mike Mangold committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies in December. However, after a recent visit he has changed his mind.
"He's going to be a Gator now," said teammate and friend Tad McConahie, who played on the same defensive line as Mangold this season. "He decided he wanted to stay in state instead of head to Tech. I know he liked both schools a lot, but in the end being a Gator was what he wanted the most."

Mangold, the No. 31 defensive end in the country, also had offers from NC State, Pitt, Tennessee and others. McConahie will attend Florida International.
"I'm glad he'll be in state so we can get together at times," he said. "The Hokies were a good fit I'm sure, but Florida is a better one."
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Mangold took his official visit to Florida this past weekend.
