Malzone updates spring schedule

Three-star Brother Rice (Mich.) quarterback Alex Malzone is juggling his baseball schedule with college football recruitment this spring, but expects to take a few visits in the coming weeks.
"I have been pretty busy with baseball, but I am planning on trying to visit colleges during spring break," Malzone said. "I was thinking maybe that first weekend trying to get down and maybe do the Penn State and Pittsburgh deal. Depending on baseball, maybe that Monday or Tuesday I'll get to more places."

Malzone's spring break runs from April 17 through April 27. That also coincides with the spring evaluation period when college coaches will be visiting high schools.
"I plan on the 17th and 18th being days I throw for colleges," Malzone said. "There are going to be about 15 colleges that come to see me throw during the open period in April and early May."
Among the schools Malzone expects in to see him throw are Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Kentucky, Minnesota and Indiana.
The mechanics of throwing a baseball and throwing a football are not the same, but Malzone is confident his arm will be football-ready when college coaches stop in to see him work out later this month.
"In the past it has been kind of tough for me going back and forth, but so far this year I haven't had any trouble at all," he said. "I threw yesterday and I am still throwing great. I think the coaches will get a good look."
The schools coming in to see Malzone throw during the spring evaluation period are primarily those that have not yet offered. A total of nine schools have offered the 6-foot-2, 185-pound signal caller and a couple, in particular, are making strong in-roads.
"I talk to coaches at Wake Forest and Pittsburgh every week. I still stay in contact with Toledo a lot too," Malzone said. "It's just good talking to them and hearing how they are doing with recruiting and how everything is going."
Malzone understands that the recruiting timetable for quarterbacks is accelerated, and has adjusted his plans accordingly.
"I have pretty much told everybody that as of right now I am still thinking sometime in May [making] a commit somewhere," Malzone said. "If recruiting absolutely blows up [this spring] I will probably have to wait until summer and make some more visits."
