Gallatin (Tenn.) Station Camp wide receiver Josh Malone put on a very good performance at the U.S. Army National Combine and landed an invite to the bowl game next year.
"It's a good feeling. It feels like my hard work is starting to pay off," he said. "I want to thank all the people that have helped me get here and, of course, God."
It is far from a surprise that Malone was invited to the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He is well-known on the spring and summer camp circuit.
"I have 14 offers right now. Really, not many schools are sticking out right now," Malone said. "Most of the national programs really come to mind. I'm just trying to focus on the academic side right now. I want a good business school that I can go to and succeed at.
"The in-state schools are coming after me hard. Ohio State, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Mississippi and Alabama," he said.
Lately, it seems like Ole Miss has been a popular school among recruits. It probably has a lot to do with the nation's top recruit Robert Nkemdiche looking more and more like a future Rebel.
"Nkemdiche kind of helps Ole Miss with me," Malone said. "They still have to prove they can compete."
Of the in-state schools, it sounds like the Volunteers have a pretty good start in the recruiting race for Malone.
"I talked to Coach Graham and Coach Jones over at Tennessee about a couple weeks ago," he said. "They're good guys I just want to meet them in person."
The Buckeyes and Wolverines play in one of the most storied rivalry games in all of sports. Both are very interested in the 6-foot-5, 187-pound Malone.
"The thing I like about Ohio State and Michigan both have solid offenses," Malone said. "The coaching staff is going to be there and the academics there are great."
One of the two teams in the national championship game has already sent Malone an offer.
"Notre Dame will win if they can stop the run and control the game but If Alabama gets their running game going, they will win," he said.
There are a few schools Malone is looking forward to receiving offers from.
"During this process, I was really hoping for offers from USC, Oregon, Miami, Florida State, Florida and Alabama," Malone said. "I recently got in contact with Florida and I've been in contact with USC."
As long as Malone continues to work hard, the offers will come. Either way, he is already considered one of the best players in his class and anxious to compete in San Antonio.
