Malik Langham cutting list soon, he has a plan in place

Over 20 schools have offered Malik Langham. The hallways and sidelines on the practice field at Huntsville (Ala.) Lee were busy with college coaches in the spring and many that were there in May will likely return this fall.

Langham's list of schools he is considering is getting shorter and shorter though, so by September, most of the schools that have offered will have been eliminated.

The 6-foot-5, 255 pound strongside end is currently down to seven schools and he is working to get that to five.

"I am currently trying to get my list down to five schools and my goal is to have that done by our first game on August 31," said Langham. "Tennessee, Washington, Vanderbilt, Penn State, Louisville, Kentucky and Ole Miss are the seven still on my list, so I am going to knock two of those off in the next month or so."

Over the summer, Langham worked out at Alabama, Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee, where Penn State held a Satelite camp. He knows the school based in Nashville (Tenn.) will receive one of his five official visits.

"I have visited Vanderbilt three times and they will definitely get an official visit," said Langham. "They are the only school I know for sure that will get one so far.

"Their academics are very impressive and the coaches really make me feel good there. It is not too far from home, I like the campus and Vanderbilt has a lot that I like."

Langham mentioned the Commodores as one of the schools showing him the most attention right now. The other two are Louisville and Ole Miss. There are some issues in Oxford (Miss.), and Hugh Freeze is no longer the coach there, but Langham still likes the Rebels.

"At first, when all of that happened with coach Freeze, I was thinking about that a lot, but they are still one of my top schools for now. I was there for a Junior Day and I liked the school, I liked the campus and I have a good bond with the defensive line coach (Freddie Roach). I am still looking at them."

The Cardinals are selling Langham on his position being one of their biggest needs in this class.

"I talk to coach [L.D.] Scott (defensive line) from Louisville and he tells me that defensive line is big for them in 2018," said Langham. "They did not sign one out of high school in 2017, so they want to get me there and give me a chance to play right away.

"I have not visited Louisville yet, but I would like to. I like coach Scott and I would like to get up there."

Before Langham makes his decision, he plans to take all five of his official visits. The plan is to tae those during the season, then to commit in November or December once his senior season comes to an end.

He is out looking not only at football, but academics are most important to him and ultimately, he wants that home feeling on the campus.

Seven schools remain in contention now, but that soon will be down to five. That is when Langham plans to truly turn his full attention to those schools.

"When I get it down to five, it is only going to be about those schools," said Langham. "I will take a look at each of those schools very hard and see what it is about each that I like the most.

"I am definitely not going to commit until after the season, so it will give me time to watch those schools play, to take visits and really get a good look at each of them. I want to find the best fit for me, so I am taking my time with my decision.

"It is not just about football. It is just not about academics. It is about everything for me. I want to find the perfect fit for me all around. That is what I plan to do this fall."
