Major offer comes for Mathis

Joe Mathis added an offer from Miami on Wednesday and it's another exciting one for the four-star defensive end from Upland, Calif., to consider.
Since so many programs are involved with the 6-foot-4, 254-pound standout he's still taking things slowly and trying to soak in everything.

"It's cool," Mathis said of his Miami offer. "I would like to take a visit out there.
"I look at their history. The d-line coach has gotten a lot of guys in the NFL so that's important."
Mathis, who said he has around 50 offers, is still unsure about official visits but is leaning toward not going back to Michigan or Nebraska - even though those are two favorites - because he has already taken unofficial visits there.
That is not a knock on either school, Mathis said, but he'd like to take trips to places he has not seen before. Still, it's too early for him to decide so even the four-star isn't certain about his future plans.
"I don't even know yet," Mathis said. "I'm going to sit down one day and go through and figure out where I'm going to take my official visits.
"Really, I don't think I'm going to take official visits to Michigan and Nebraska because I've already been there. I think I'm going to see other schools. I have to sit down. There are too many schools."
Another school that offered Wednesday was Hawaii and before it's completely dismissed there is a slight chance Mathis might visit there. Nevada, Idaho and San Jose State also came through on Wednesday.
Hawaii also offered four-star cornerback Priest Willis, a four-star cornerback from Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza, and four-star safety Tahaan Goodman from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., has said he's seriously considering an official visit there.
Mathis, Willis and Goodman are close friends.
"I would be open to that," Mathis said. "If (Goodman) takes his official there, I think I would too because we might be taking some of the same officials."
