Major 2020 OL Kevin Pyne's recruitment just getting started
Just finishing his freshman year, offensive lineman Kevin Pyne is already viewed as a big time prospect and has pulled in offers from some of the nation's top football programs. The Millis, Mass. star is just diving into the recruiting process but has a some connections to a few colleges.
IN HIS OWN WORDS...
"All these offers have been humbling but I just try to stay focused on school and football," Pyne said. "I'm just trying to get better and represent my school. I want to prove that Massachusetts kids can play.
"The first couple offers were really unexpected," he said. "I've seen some guys go through a tough recruitment but I've had it a little easier so far. As they come in I try to keep focused on what I need to do to get better.
"My uncle played at Virginia Tech," Pyne said. "I think he was an All-American there and went on to play in the NFL. At Boston College I know Jon Baker. He played at Millis here so I've talked to him. I'm close to him and he's a good guy.
"I know Michigan is a great football program and a great school too," he said. "They have a lot of good student athletes there. I don't really have a preference on teams right now. I just watch games on TV.
"I've talked to several coaches and they all seem great," said Pyne. "I couldn't say anything bad about any of them. I haven't really gone in-depth with many schools yet. I'm only a freshman.
"I've been to Boston College before and I'm going to Florida State for a visit tomorrow," he said. "At Boston College I thought the campus looked great. It was a beautiful campus and the coaches were good. I'm excited to meet coach Fisher at Florida State.
"Drew (Pyne, a major quarterback prospect in the 2020 class) is my cousin," he said. "We text each other congratulations when we get offers but that's about it as far as recruiting goes right now. We see each other a lot during the summers and we're pretty close."
RIVALS' REACTION
Offers have been steadily streaming in for the 6-foot-8 Pyne over the past couple months. Rhode Island was first followed by Boston College, UCLA, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Kentucky, Georgia, and Tennessee most recently. Pyne and his family have connections all over the sports world so it's hard to say if one school is in better position than another. One important note is that Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown has a long standing relationship with the Millis program so the Wolverines could be a team to watch.
