Mahone talks injury return, decision timeframe

Austintown (Ohio) Fitch four-star running back William Mahone had to exit last week's showdown with Canton Glenoak early after an ankle injury forced him to spend the rest of the contest on crutches. Mahone updated his injury progress, and also when his college decision may come.
"I just got a high ankle sprain and should be back next week," Mahone said. "The way my leg bent I felt maybe I could have broken it, but I could walk off so I figured I just rolled it. I don't think 'season-ending,' crossed my mind, but just being out of the game was hard for me."

A Mahone-less Fitch team dropped the contest by a final of 21-10 and fell to 3-2 on the season. Mahone said they basically needed to win out to make the playoffs, and he looks forward to leading them to the postseason after a one-game absence.
The chance that Mahone could be a committed prospect before he next takes the field appears likely. The nation's No. 11 ranked running back is down to three schools and is closing in on a decision.
"It's Pitt, Notre Dame and Michigan State," Mahone said. "I should have a decision pretty soon here. It could be this week or next week. I'll probably just call some reporters and tell them. I don't plan on making it a big deal."
Mahone has already taken visits this fall to Penn State and Notre Dame, with his Sept. 16 weekend trip to South Bend being an official visit. He was supposed to visit Pittsburgh this past weekend, but the injury postponed that trip. He may still get out to see Pitt before making his final decision.
"I have a chance to go to Pitt Thursday with the Davis' [teammates Chris and Demitrious], but I'm not sure about that yet," Mahone said.
With rehabilitation on his ankle and the decision making process in full swing, it promises to be an interesting next several days for Mahone.
