Magnuson has some early favorites

CULVER CITY, Calif. - Erik Magnuson dominated the Asante Trenchmen Academy this weekend and the Carlsbad (Calif.) La Costa Canyon offensive tackle could be close to another big offer.
"I've been talking to Notre Dame lately and should be getting an offer from them," Magnuson said.

"That's the latest in recruiting right now. It's definitely a big-time program and it makes me think about leaving the West Coast. I know all about their history."
Miami, Oregon and Michigan are three other programs standing out for Magnuson, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound prospect who competes with a lot of fierceness and intensity. He was definitely the top prospect seen Saturday at the Trenchmen Academy.
"Miami is definitely one of my top schools," Magnuson said. "Michigan is up there, too. Oregon is obviously up there. I don't really have a favorite right now. I'm still exploring all my options.
"That's the hardest part. I have to pick only one. But I'm going to take my visits and see where I feel most comfortable and I want to meet the coaches. That will help me make my decision. Right now, I wish I could commit and get it over with but I'm going to wait."
Oregon was the first Pac-10 offer for Magnuson and he felt after the Ducks offered that really helped his recruitment take off. He has lots of interest in Oregon so it will continue to stay atop his list.
"That was a really important offer because I think that's what got me on the board for everyone else," Magnuson said. "They were my first offer so I'm always going to keep them up top."
The Hurricanes are definitely one of Magnuson's favorites and he's been impressed with coach Al Golden and the new staff at Miami so far. With Michigan, Magnuson has known those coaches since they were at San Diego State and started recruiting him a few years back.
"I really like the coaches down there," Magnuson said of Miami. "I know the history and I think I could fit in there.
"I've known the coaches (at Michigan) since they were at San Diego State and they were recruiting me as a sophomore. I know the offensive line coach really well and I know coach (Brady) Hoke really well. They need linemen too so I could get early playing time."
In total, Magnuson has offers from Arizona, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.
