Magnolia TE emerges with huge offer list

One of the top players in the Magnolia State, Columbus, Miss., tight end/defensive end Stacy Jones has not gotten a lot of publicity so far in the recruiting process, but that is about to change.
“I have a ton of offers now and they have all come within the last month or so,” Jones said. “Some of the biggest ones that I have are Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Memphis, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Marshall, Louisiana tech, Michigan and Tennessee. I think Georgia was my most recent offer.”

The 6-foot-3, 231-pound Jones runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, has a 315-pound bench press and 600-pound squat.
“Right now my top five schools are Mississippi State, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and LSU,” Jones said. “The top school on my list is Mississippi State right now, but Georgia is a close second.”
So what stands out about these pair of Bulldogs?
“I live about an hour from Mississippi State,” Jones said. “I grew up close and I am familiar with the program and I love the atmosphere there. They also have early playing time available. Georgia has a lot of seniors and they are going to have early playing time available. Right now they are the hottest team in the SEC and they will be at the top of the conference again this year.”
A two-year starter Jones led his team in tackles as a junior with 119 (67 solos). He also added eight sacks and four blocked punts, two which he recovered for touchdowns. He would prefer to play tight end at the next level, and although used mainly as a blocking tight end in high school, he had 15 receptions, and was named first team all-region and first team all-district. He also won the state in the discus as a sophomore.
“The main things that will go into my decision is early playing time and playing tight end,” Jones said. “I really want to play tight end in college. I just want to feel comfortable with the school and the environment.”
The only camp that Jones plans to attend the summer is at Mississippi State on July 25-26.
“I really don’t have a time table set for a decision,” Jones said. “There is a chance to that I could commit early if I feel like I have found the right place. Then again I may wait and take my visits. That is something my parents and I are going to sit down and talk about soon.”
