Magnolia TE/DE favoring in-state school

Vicksburg (Miss.) tight end/defensive end Sean Gibbs was not happy with his performance at the NIKE camp in Baton Rouge, so he did something about it.
“I ran like a 4.91 in the forty down there and I felt like I was faster than that,” Gibbs said. “I went out and hired a personal trainer to get faster because some schools told me they didn’t want to offer because they didn’t feel like I was fast enough. I ran a 4.69 and filmed it and I sent it out to those coaches and now they have offered.’

At the NIKE camp Gibbs measured in a 6-foot-1.5 (though he claims he recently measured in at 6-foot-2 in a recent physical), and 233 pounds He did 12 reps on the bench press, had a 29-inch vertical jump and ran the shuttle in 4.43 seconds.
“Right now I have offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, West Virginia, Marshall, Southern Miss and Memphis,” Gibbs said. “Right now I would say that Ole Miss is my No. 1 school. After that I would say that Auburn and Southern Miss are tied for No. 2. I’m also looking at West Virginia, Memphis and Mississippi State.”
A starter since the tenth grade, Gibbs recorded 15 catches for 385 yards as a junior, and was named to the all-county and honorable mention all-district teams as a tight end. Also a star on the baseball team, the right hander boasts a fastball in the upper eighties, along with a good curve and changeup, and batted .300 with two homeruns and 28 RBI as a sophomore.
“I want to major in political science so I am going to be looking for a school that offers that,” Gibbs said. “I would like to have the chance to play early. I really would like for my family to be able to come and see me play so I don’t want to go too far from home. There is a chance that I could commit early, but I really think that I want to take a few visits first.”
