Magnolia DT focused on senior season

At 6-foot-6, 315 pounds, Batesville (Miss.) South Panola defensive tackle John Jerry is one of the biggest defensive lineman in the South he has picked several impressive scholarship offers.
“Well, Michigan and Ole Miss had offered me a while back,” he said. “Now, though, I have two new offers from Mississippi State and Southern Miss. All of them are in writing except for Mississippi State; they told me they were going to offer and told my coach, too.”

Jerry runs the 40-yard dash in 5.2 seconds.
“I don’t really have a list of top schools right now,” Jerry said. “I’m not even thinking a lot about recruiting right now, to tell you the truth. I am just focused on getting better and helping to lead my high school team back to another state championship this year. I know that Ole Miss will be one of the schools in the running, but right now that is the only one that I can say for sure will be in there.”
So far this summer, he has attended a 7-on-7 camp at Ole Miss and will attend another camp at East Central Community College on July 19. With so many prospects at one school, one would assume that they discuss the recruiting process on occasion.
“I have talked about where I might want to go with a few of my teammates,” Jerry said. “Right now, though we are mainly just focused on our senior season. We are trying to pick back up where we left off last year. We’ve been working out really hard. It has been tough, but we have all been putting forth a lot of effort.”
There have been questions about whether or not Jerry is going to make the grades in order to avoid the two-year junior college route.
“Things have been going pretty well as far as academics,” Jerry said. “I’ve just got to work on getting the rest of my credits and all. I have been working real hard to get everything taken care of in that department. Right now I think I will be OK."
