Magazu makes the call

East Carolina picked up a pledge from a talented athlete in-state over the weekend. The Pirates pulled the commitment from a 5-foot-11, 170-pounder.
"I actually committed to East Carolina on Saturday after their spring scrimmage," Charlotte (N.C.) Providence athlete Damon Magazu said. "I committed to Coach Smith. He seemed pretty excited about it. At least, I hope to think he was."

What made the Carolina prospect select East Carolina?
"Mainly it was the coaching staff. The most important thing to me was the coaching staff and being around Coach Smith, Petty and I really liked Coach Holtz," he stated. "It's a certain vibe I got there. I liked the vibe and their personalities. We got along great and they have a defense I enjoy.
"Their success recently is a bonus. The past few years with Coach Holtz, they've won a lot more games."
Magazu plans to play safety once he gets to Greenville.
"I'm really excited and I'm going to keep working hard and look forward to winning some championships."
