Maddox surprised by first offer

After a solid camp outing this past summer, Converse (Texas) Judson safety Dominick Maddox didn't think his first offer would come so quickly from a certain in-state school.
That changed last September when he received his first scholarship offer from UTEP. Maddox, the 5-foot-11, 194-pound senior-to-be, says that it caught him off guard.

"I was actually surprised that they offered me," Maddox said. "I showed up at their camp, I think it was in July. They hadn't seen any game film on me and I got the offer."
Maddox says that his aggressive style is what makes him a good safety.
"I think it's easy for me to get to the ball because I'm fast on the field more so than on a track," Maddox said. "I have a nose for the ball and I'm athletic enough to make the big play."
Oklahoma State, Duke, Air Force, and UConn have all shown interest in Maddox as well. One out-of-state school currently sits in the leader spot and he's hoping to hear from them.
"It's Miami," Maddox said about his favorite. "It's because of their defense. It's fast-paced and I think I'm pretty fast."
The only visit plans for Maddox right now is the NIKE Training Camp in Fort Worth late next month.
