Maddox commits to NC State

The Wolfpack added commitment No. 3 today in Shelby (N.C.) Crest linebacker Dwayne Maddox. The 6-foot-1, 222-pounder committed to North Carolina State over six offers from schools including North Carolina, Alabama, South Carolina and others.
"I talked to coach O'Brien and Andy McCollum at around one," he said. "Oh man, they were excited and fired up about it. After I told them, they were just talking about what we're going to do when I get there."

Maddox went into detail about what made him decide on the Wolfpack.
"I mean it was the best place for me," he said. "It was good for my family to come and see me, they have good coaches and they are an up and coming program that is on the rise. They are also graduating four linebackers and need someone to come in.
"Specifically with the coaches, I liked my recruiter coach McCollum. That dude is pretty wild and that's what you need in a coach, someone that will get you hyped and motivated. I also like coach O'Brien. He's a great guy and is trying to get a winning program together there."
With a chance for early playing time, what are the coaches seeing out of Maddox in the future?
"They told me if I come in and am ready to play there's a good chance I'll start," he said. "If I'm not ready to start, I won't redshirt. Instead I'll just be in the mix at linebacker."
Does that mean the three-star prospect will consider graduating early?
"I probably could, but I'm just going to graduate on-time," he said. "I am ready to get down there and help them build a winning program."
