Anderson (S.C.) T.L. Hanna running back Brian Maddox has the size, speed and big-play ability to become a workhorse running back at the college level and beyond. The 6-foot, 215-pounder uses finesse and power to roll up chunks of yardage. He is also capable of a quick-strike big play.
One of the top running backs in the Southeast, Maddox will show off his skills for the East squad in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Rivals.com is the official selection partner for the national all-star game, which will be televised live at 5 p.m. Eastern by ESPNU.
"It's a great honor to be selected for that game," Maddox told Rivals.com. "It will be great to compete against all the big players down there."
Maddox has rolled up 1,528 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing so far during his senior season. He topped the 1,300-yard mark as a junior. In addition to his rushing ability, his soft hands and passing game prowess make him a formidable weapon. He racked up 740 receiving yards last season.
The Offense-Defense All-American Bowl won't be the only all-star game Maddox participates in this offseason. He was selected to represent his home state in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, which annually pits some of the top prospects from South Carolina against those from neighboring North Carolina. This year's game will be held Dec. 16 in Spartanburg, S.C.
Maddox committed to South Carolina in June over Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida and Florida State. Several other potential future Gamecocks are expected to play in the game, so he's excited to get the chance to bond early with some of his future teammates.
"I know a lot of other USC commitments are going to be down there with me, so I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time with them," Maddox said.
Maddox is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and is a member of the Rivals250. He is the nation's No. 15 running back prospect and currently is the ninth-ranked prospect in the state of South Carolina.
