Mack on the map

Jonathan Mack didn't spend his summer at camps or on unofficial visits, but that hasn't stopped the Colton, Calif., cornerback from receiving interest and offers from a number of schools.
"It has been going good," he said. "I got another offer one from Iowa State this week."

The ISU offer is Mack's third. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound corner has also been tendered offers from Nebraska and UNLV.
"I don't know too much about Iowa State, but I'll look into it," he said. "I've talked to coach Chris Ash about it, and he seems like a very nice person."
The three-star prospect has also enjoyed being recruited by Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini.
"He's very nice," he said. "I called their coaches the other day but they didn't answer, so I've got to get back to them."
The Cornhuskers have also tendered an offer to Derrick Malone, Mack's teammate. The two are interested in taking an official visit to Lincoln together this fall.
"Me and Derrick Malone were talking about going up to Nebraska together," he said. "We've talked about going to the same school, we'd like to. We talk about it all the time."
Mack said he's looking for a school with a strong fan base and an environment he can connect to. He'd like to hear from more Pac 10 schools, but is "open to going anywhere."
One Pac 10 schools that has an edge in his recruitment is UCLA. Mack's brother is Bruins junior running back Christian Ramirez.
"He's told me it's a good program with good academics," Mack said.
Colton is currently practicing for the fall season, and Mack has tried his hand at a number of positions during summer practices.
"I've been working a little bit on offense," he said. "I'll be a kick returner and punt returner, and I'll play wide receiver or running back. It's going to be a good season."
