Lyons impresses in tough loss

We've talked a lot about the showdown last week between the top two teams in CA, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei and Corona (Calif.) Centennial. It was a tough loss for the Huskies but linebacker Shelly Lyons was solid throughout the contest.
Centennial has a great group of linebackers and three of them already hold Div I offers including Lyons. At 6-1, 215 pounds, Lyons, like so many of the Husky players really looks the part and is very dedicated to the weight room.

Lyons is a tough, physical player with a high motor. He's a big hitter and able to take on blocks or make plays run away from him. He's a fluid athlete who is comfortable playing in space and definitely looks like a solid Div I prospect.
"Shelly has had a great season for us," Husky coach Matt Logan said. "He along with Brandon (Magee) have been our leaders and have played well all season.
"The matchup with Mater Dei was extremely tough. They would go five wides like Texas Tech one possession and then go two tight ends and run it down your throat the next. Shelly played well and I was very proud of him."
On the recruiting front, Lyons has a handful of offers on the table but isn't close to narrowing his list.
"San Diego State, Utah and UNLV are his solid offers," Logan said. "He has some verbal offers as well but a lot of schools are waiting to see what happens with him academically. He has some work to do in the classroom so a few schools are taking a wait and see approach.
"He hasn't set up any of his visits yet but were talking about it. We have a bye in three weeks so I think a lot of our kids, including Shelly, will take one of their visits that weekend."
