Lynch and Larkins Discuss Decision

Cal is on a recruiting roll right now and was the most talked about school during the CaliFlorida Bowl practices. As always happens in all-star games, players grow close to each other and begin to talk about being a package deal. Two players who went ahead and committed to the Bears were Oakland Tech (Calif.) teammates Virdell Larkins and Marshawn Lynch and it’s actually a decision they decided on weeks ago.
“Cal had everything we were looking for,” Lynch, who showed all week why we feel he’s the top back in the West, said. “It’s a program that is definitely on the rise and already has some big wins over schools like USC and Virginia Tech. The coaches are great and the school is close to home. Our feeling was, why go elsewhere when Cal has everything we’re looking for in a school right in our own backyard.”

Larkins echoed those statements.
“Cal is just an awesome place right now,” Larkins said. “Everyone is talking about them out here. I think we’ll get the De La Salle guys (Terrance Kelly, Willie Glasper), Worrell (Williams) and a few surprises as well.”
Both players, who are not just teammates but cousins and live together, chose the Bears over Oregon and had offers from just about every top program in the West region.
