Kregg Lumpkin
says he's known for quite some time where he was headed to play college
football, but was trying to be as patient as possible.
On Monday, he decided to wrap up the process when the
Rivals100
team member chose the Georgia Bulldogs.
"At the beginning of this season, I pretty much knew what I wanted to do,"
Lumpkin said. "In my heart, I really wanted to be a Bulldog. It's like a family
thing for me. Two of my cousins played football there and another is playing
basketball there, so I knew all about the school and how nice it was.
"I'm just glad to have the decision made so I can concentrate on our season at
Stephenson."
He picked Georgia over Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee
and Texas.
In addition to family ties and the proximity of home, Lumpkin said he spent a
lot of time breaking down the depth charts at his prospective schools.
"I looked at how the running back situation was shaping up at each of them, how
deep they were," he said. "Georgia was the perfect fit."
Stephenson improved to 4-0 last week as Lumpkin rushed for 133 yards and one
touchdown. As a junior, he rushed for 2,088 yards and 29 touchdowns in
establishing himself as one of the nation's
top-rated running backs.
