The evaluation period has just finished for athlete Zach Luckett out of Absecon (N.J.) Holy Spirit. A few schools on the East Coast really impressed the 6-foot-3, 193-pounder.
"The coaches from Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Boston College were all really good," he said. "It was more personal from them; they weren't just coming to tell me something they practiced, something they tell every student. It was more what they wanted to say instead of what their school wanted them to say and that caught my attention."
Besides those three schools, Luckett is also favoring Virginia and Pittsburgh.
"They stand out because of their location and academics." Luckett added, "Most of these schools are in a good location to me."
Virginia and Virginia Tech have had Luckett's attention for quite some time now.
"When the coach from Virginia came in and visited, he seemed like a really good guy. He's sent me a lot of mail and their rates of education impressed me," he said. "I've been watching Virginia Tech my entire life and Virginia is not too far away from home and the coach seemed like a really good guy as well."
Luckett also mentioned that both Virginia and Virginia Tech should expect official visits from the New Jersey athlete.
As for the summer, Luckett is looking to improve on a lot of things.
"I'm hoping to improve on my speed, quickness, route-running and explosiveness."
During the offseason, Luckett is honing his speed by competing in track and field.
"I'm doing really well this season, it's probably my best season out of all three," he said. "I just owned the 400-meter in the last meet and I'm running the 100 and 400 at state. I'm hoping to win one or both there."
Luckett ran for 587 yards and 10 touchdowns in his junior campaign. He also caught passes for 684 yards and six touchdowns.
